Classic Beef Reuben Sandwich
Ingredients:
1 pound sliced cooked corned beef (or roast beef, if preferred)
8 slices of rye bread
8 slices of Swiss cheese
1 cup sauerkraut, drained
1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing (or Russian dressing)
Butter, softened (for grilling)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Sandwiches:
Lay out the rye bread slices. Spread Thousand Island dressing on one side of each slice.
On half of the bread slices, layer Swiss cheese, corned beef, and sauerkraut.
Top each with another slice of bread, dressing side down.
2. Grill the Sandwiches:
Butter the outside of each sandwich.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches on the hot skillet.
Cook until the bread is golden and crispy, and the cheese is melted—about 3-4 minutes per side.
3. Serve:
Remove from the skillet, cut in half, and serve hot.
Tips:
For extra flavor, warm the sauerkraut before adding it to the sandwich.
If you like a crispier sandwich, press down lightly with a spatula while grilling.
