This classic Sloppy Joe recipe is easy to make and full of rich, savory flavors. Perfect for a quick and delicious meal!

Ingredients

1 tbsp oil (vegetable or olive)

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 small bell pepper (red or green), finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 lb (450g) ground beef (or ground turkey)

1 cup tomato sauce (or canned crushed tomatoes)

2 tbsp tomato ketchup

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)

1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for sweetness)

½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)

4 burger buns

Instructions

1. Cook the Vegetables: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

2. Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef to the pan. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.

3. Make the Sauce: Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well and let it simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Stir occasionally.

4. Assemble the Sloppy Joes: Toast the burger buns if desired. Spoon the meat mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Place the top half over it and serve hot.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with fries, coleslaw, or a side salad.

Add cheese slices for extra richness.

For a spicier version, mix in a little hot sauce or chili flakes.
