Homemade Corn Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
6 hot dogs
6 wooden skewers
1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
1 cup (150g) cornmeal
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ tsp paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or regular milk)
1 egg
1 tbsp vegetable oil
Oil for frying
Instructions
1. Prepare the hot dogs
Pat the hot dogs dry with a paper towel.
Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, leaving enough space to hold it.
Place them in the fridge while preparing the batter.
2. Make the batter
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and paprika.
In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and vegetable oil.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until smooth.
Pour the batter into a tall glass for easy dipping.
3. Heat the oil
Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
4. Coat and fry the corn dogs
Dip each hot dog into the batter, making sure it’s fully coated.
Let any excess drip off before placing it in the hot oil.
Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
5. Drain and serve
Remove the corn dogs and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or your favorite dip.
